EMS SATCOM Announces New Single-Channel Extension Terminal

Geneva, Switzerland -- EMS SATCOM, a division of EMS Technologies, today announced the first delivery of its new single SwiftBroadband channel eNfusion HSD-Xi High-speed Data Terminal. The terminal adds one SwiftBroadband and one Swift 64 channel to the company's HSD-440 High-speed Data transceiver. The combined system becomes a dual-channel SwiftBroadband system, while also offering classic services in an 8 plus 2 Modular Concept Unit (MCU) form factor. The HSD-Xi terminal's first installation was on a U.S.-based Bombardier CL-605 aircraft.

"With the addition of the HSD-Xi terminal, our seventh SwiftBroadband product, to the eNfusion line, we have added more capability to our already feature-rich HSD-440 High-speed Data transceiver," said Jean Ménard, EMS SATCOM's director of Commercial Sales. "The additional channel of SwiftBroadband gives passengers more bandwidth for Internet browsing, streaming services, voice calls and texting in-flight. Because of its safety-services capability, crews have more flexibility to fly oceanic routes."

More about the HSD-Xi High-speed Data Terminal

The HSD-Xi High-speed Data terminal is a 2-MCU size unit. The HSD-Xi terminal operates in conjunction with the eNfusion HSD-440 High-speed Data Transceiver to provide one additional channel of Swift 64 services or one channel of SwiftBroadband Services. Like all EMS SATCOM transceivers the HSD-Xi allows users to automatically switch from SwiftBroadband to Swift 64 should it be required. In this mode the unit offers three channels of Swift 64 service. The new transceiver has an External Software Configuration Module (ESCM) that holds one standard USIM card. This provides secure subscriber information for SwiftBroadband operation.

About the HSD-440 High-speed Data Transceiver

The HSD-440 Transceiver combines SwiftBroadband cabin services and cockpit/safety services on an aircraft using a single 8-MCU avionics unit. The unit's integrated High Power Amplifier (HPA) and two (2) transceiver subsystems provide maximum communications flexibility and redundancy. The HSD-440 transceiver provides channels for ACARS, Aero H+ voice and Inmarsat SwiftBroadband cabin services. The HSD-440 unit, for reliability, automatically switches to Swift 64 services over the Inmarsat I-3 satellite network.
