Emerson & Cuming Microwave Products Announces New One Part Free Flowing Syntactic Foam Powder

Emerson & Cuming Microwave/Medical Divisionolph, MA - September 17, 2000 -- ECCOSTOCK. FFP is a new, one-part, free flowing syntactic foam powder for low-loss, low-dielectric constant, and low-thermal conductivity microwave applications from Emerson & Cuming Microwave Products. You just pour it into a cavity and heat it up. This epoxy-based material cures at elevated temperatures to a rigid non-burning syntactic foam. It infiltrates densely populated electronic packages filling open spaces around delicate components. The foam provides physical support, thermal insulation, and vibration support without increasing weight or dielectric constant.

ECCOSTOCK. FFP can be cured at temperatures as low as 1000C (2120F), or more quickly at higher temperatures. There is minimum shrinkage during cure, exerting minimum stress on delicate components. Cured material is easily removed for access to component repair or replacement. Opened areas can be refilled and cured using the original process. Since cured ECCOSTOCK. FFP is porous, application of an epoxy coating will reduce moisture absorption.

ECCOSTOCK. FFP is available in squeeze bottles, as well as in cans and pails; Size I, 2.5 ounce squeeze bottle; Size II, 5-ounce squeeze bottle or 5 ounce quart can; Size III, 1.25 pound gallon can; and Size IV, 6.25-pound pail. Shelf life is six months when storing containers at 210C (700F) out of direct sunlight.
