Decibel Products was acquired in July 1992, by the Allen Group Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio. Today, known as Allen Telecom Inc., the corporation consists of several divisions. Each division, of which Decibel Products is one, has a specific focus on a key segment of the wireless communications industry. Decibel brings to the wireless communications marketplace the most complete line of base station components and equipment available.

The Growth
Decibel Products has experienced a substantial growth rate in recent years, with revenues doubling twice from 1987 to 1996. Decibel's president,Dr. Peter Mailandt, attributes the company's growth to the steady increase in the number of personal communications consumers and the overall growth of the wireless communications market world-wide.

The Facility
To continue growth, Decibel has expanded. In its early years, Decibel was located in a small building on Dragon Street, not far from downtown Dallas. Then, in 1960, Decibel constructed and moved to a new 7,500 square foot building on Quebec Street, about five miles from its old location. For the next 35 years, Decibel grew into a five-building complex occupying a total of 195,000 square feet. But, once again having outgrown its facilities, Decibel moved in January 1995 to its present location, a single, 260,000 square-foot building. For the first time since the early 1960s, all of Decibel's employees – now totaling over 600 are under one roof.

Decibel's current facility is located on Stemmons Freeway (Interstate 35E) about 7 miles northwest of downtown Dallas. Situated next to this major Dallas freeway, it is easily accessible from DFW International Airport and provides excellent exposure to the Dallas/Fort Worth business community. The facility received ISO 9001 certification in January 1995. With the goal of substantially improving our service to foreign and international carriers as well as to worldwide OEM's, Decibel opened manufacturing facilities in Guangzhou, Southern China (1998), ISO 9002; in Curitiba, Brazil (early 1999), and in Reynosa, Mexico (late 1999), ISO 9002.

The People
Decibel realizes its growth and prominence in the marketplace is a direct result of the individual and collective efforts of its employees. One of the ways Decibel recognizes its employees is through the Plus 10dB Club. The club's membership consists of employees with 10 or more years of service with the company; currently, there are over 120 active members. They organize fund raising activities and other special events throughout the year. With the monies raised from these events, the club provides assistance to Decibel employees who may be suffering from extreme hardship or serious financial need.

The Future
As wireless telephone services such as Trunking, Cellular, Paging and PCS (Personal Communication Service) continue to expand domestically, and as Cellular 800/900 and GSM 1800/PCS 1900 growth accelerates in foreign countries, Decibel's role in the international marketplace will continue to increase.
