Collins SAT-2000 Aero-I and CMU-900 to Outfit Aircraft
Boeing has selected Rockwell Collins to provide SAT-2000 Aero-I satellite communication systems and CMU-900 communication management units to support the U.S. Air Force's C-17 aircraft for the Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) environment.
This contract represents the initial sale of these two commercial off-the-shelf products for the U.S. Air Force. The initial order is for support and pre-production hardware, with options to outfit the entire fleet of 120 aircraft.
GATM is the implementation of those evolving system requirements that permit military aircraft to maintain unrestricted access to global airspace by ensuring interoperability with civilian traffic.
The SAT-2000 satellite communication system gives operators flexibility to access Inmarsat's Aero-I spotbeam coverage for multi-channel voice and data, as well as single channel data in the continuous global coverage regions. The CMU-900 communication management unit is a data router that transmits and receives messages through VHF, SATCOM, and HFDL channels.
