Application Note: AutoCal® Automatic Calibrator

AutoCal® is a new method for calibrating vector network analyzers (VNAs) and measurement systems (VNMSs). AutoCal incorporates switches to select different impedance standards from just one connection between the VNA and a calibrator module. This note explains the factors which affect the accuracy of a calibration performed using AutoCal. A full description of the various calibrations possible with AutoCal is also given. Measurement results on typical measurement devices are compared using a traditional calibration against an automatic calibration. Finally, in the Appendix, a full explanation behind the mathematics used for the AutoCal impedance standards is provided.
