The challenges involved with measuring an antenna’s radiation characteristics when it’s mounted on a large platform stem from the fact that it’s very difficult to accurately simulate an antenna’s interaction with an electrically large environment.
EM Software’s FEKO is a suite of tools used for electromagnetic field analysis of 3-D structures. This antenna placement software can be used to solve antenna placement problems, depending on the electrical size of the structure that the antenna is mounted to. Some of the techniques used in this antenna placement software include Method of Moments (MoM), Multilevel Fast Multipole Method (MLDMM), and the hybrid Method of Moments/Uniform Theory of Diffraction (MoM/UTD) technique.
