About UEC Technologies (Pty) Limited
History
UEC has been a pioneer in the development of digital Set-Top-Boxes since 1993 and developed the first MPEG-2 Digital Satellite Decoder utilising Irdeto Conditional Access Technology. UEC first began the manufacture of Irdeto Conditional Access Modules whilst the UEC designed Panasat Digital Satellite Decoder was manufactured under license by Panasonic South Africa. In 1997 UEC acquired a high volume manufacturing facility and began the volume manufacture of Digital Satellite Decoders.
UEC is currently producing its 5th generation Digital Satellite Decoder as well as a range of Digital Cable and Terrestrial Television Decoders.
UEC's reputation as the world's leading R&D facility in it's chosen field has since led to several significant joint ventures, technology transfers and collaborative projects with major international manufacturers. In addition, UEC's commitment to quality has made the UEC product a sought after commodity throughout the world.
Focus
UEC's focus, efforts and resources are all concentrated on the field of Compressed Digital Television and Data Reception Equipment. The company, whilst being technology conscious, is market driven and all UEC products are developed with a specific market or application in mind, often in partnership with it's television or internet customers.
Specialising to this extent has resulted in UEC acquiring the skills, knowledge and ability to translate its customer's requirements or concepts into a finished product in the shortest possible time.
Research and Development
UEC employs over 500 employees; the majority are employed in the manufacturing division with Research & Development accounting for over 40% of the permanent work force.
At UEC more than 6% of income is designated for R&D projects. The core hardware and software design of all of UEC's products are of its own development with the exception of certain proprietary operating and conditional access systems which are incorporated against license and integration agreements.
Manufacturing
UEC has its own state-of-the-art production facility and does not sub-contract any portion of the production process or out-source any sub-assembly. The facility utilises the most recent, fully automated SMD placement equipment placing over 100 000 components per hour. The mechanical assembly lines employ the most modern and effective production methodologies resulting in high production capacity.
Quality Assurance
Quality Assurance is fundamental to UEC's business philosophy and UEC's Quality Assurance procedures are compliant with the requirements of ISO9001. The Quality Assurance department is dedicated Department to insure a quality products throughout all phases of development, manufacture, administration and service.
All products manufactured are 100% tested and inspected and each production batch is subjected to a Quality Assurance Audit comprising a sample size of 5 out of every 50 units produced (10%). As a result, UEC is able to ensure the timeous delivery of a consistently well-engineered and reliable product.
