24 To 34 GHz GaAs MMIC Receiver Integrates LNA, Image Reject Mixer, LO Buffer Amp
Single-chip receiver eliminates tuning and reduces interconnects
Houston -- Mimix Broadband, Inc. introduces today a gallium arsenide (GaAs) monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) sub-harmonic receiver, which includes a three-stage balanced LNA followed by an image reject sub-harmonic anti-parallel diode mixer and integrated LO buffer amplifier. The image reject mixer eliminates the need for a bandpass filter after the LNA to remove thermal noise at the image frequency. By using this highly integrated receiver, design engineers can use fewer parts that require no tuning and have less interconnects, increasing reliability and manufacturability of millimeter-wave transceivers. Using 0.15 micron gate length GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (pHEMT) device model technology, this receiver covers the 24 to 34 GHz frequency bands and uses a 2 dBm LO drive level at half the internal LO frequency. The receiver, identified as 29REC0239, has a noise figure of 3 dB and 15 dB image rejection across the band. It is well suited for wireless communications applications such as millimeter-wave point-to-point radio, local multipoint distribution services (LMDS) and SATCOM.
"The broad frequency coverage of this device, together with the high level of integration and incorporation of a sub-harmonic mixer make this circuit suitable for a wide range of applications in the point-to-point and point-to-multipoint communications markets," stated Dr. Jim Harvey, CTO of Mimix Broadband.
Mimix performs 100% on-wafer RF, DC and noise figure testing on the 29REC0239, as well as 100% visual inspection to MIL-STD-883 method 2010. The chip also has surface passivation to protect and provide a rugged part with backside via holes and gold metallization to allow either a conductive epoxy or eutectic solder die attach process.
Engineering samples are available today from stock, and production quantities are available 6-8 weeks ARO. Click here to contact Mimix about the 29REC0239.
