In the past few years, the exponential growth of wireless devices has created significant challenges for spectrum regulators. As a key piece of the wireless economy infrastructure, spectrum needs to be well managed and able to transmit data without interference, whether malicious or accidental. This article provides an overview of contemporary radio spectrum monitoring practices, and introduces a sensor and geolocation technologies that can meet emerging challenges.
