Low-power Wireless Technology Supplier Coronis Systems Opens U.S. Office

Montpellier, France and Chicago, Illinois -- Coronis Systems announces that it has opened a new office in Chicago to serve its American markets directly. Under the direction of former AT RAMAR, LLC executive John Rouse, the Chicago branch will focus on promoting the company's Wavenis wireless technology for sensor networks (WSN), utility metering, home/building & industrial automation, and more. Wavenis is increasingly viewed by manufacturers and system integrators as a field-proven alternative to Bluetooth and Zigbee protocols, adapted specifically to the needs of long-life battery powered devices now used in many types of machine-to-machine (M2M) applications.

"Wavenis not only has the technical qualities manufacturers are seeking for their wireless products, but it also has industrial maturity in a field where other network protocols are just beginning to venture", explains John Rouse. "Today Coronis partners have installed nearly 400,000 Wavenis-based devices for their customers in automatic metering, telemetry, and home automation systems. Another 500,000 units are on order and will ship before the end of the year."

Both the Bluetooth SIG and Zigbee Alliance are now seeking to address the market for wireless devices that lie at the complete opposite end of the spectrum from consumer-oriented high-speed connections for video, music, and large volumes of data. Wireless sensors, such as those used in utility metering, personal tagging, and building automation applications, actually transmit very little data at a time, but have to offer ultra low power consumption to achieve a battery-powered lifespan of many years, while still offering long range capabilities and robustness against interference from physical obstacles and ambient noise. From day one, Coronis Systems has designed Wavenis with Bluetooth extension capabilities to address these markets.

In wireless mesh networks, Wavenis-powered devices typically offer 10-15 years operation on a single set of AA batteries, with LOS range up to 1 km, and 200 meters indoors. Products with Wavenis technology have been shipping in volume since 2002, including a fully automated 25,000 node water meter network in France. Already adopted by industry leaders such as Elster, Schneider Electric, Veolia, GT&T Engineering, and Intervox, Wavenis was recently chosen by HowDeep Tech Co, the leading provider of metering solutions in China, for a 50,000 node gas meter network. Wavenis technology is FCC-approved. Coronis intends to leverage the new Chicago office staff to continue promoting standardization of its Wavenis technology in North America, generally considered as the key region for widespread adoption of telecom standards. The company is an active member of the Bluetooth SIG's Automation Working Group focusing on adapting Bluetooth for wireless sensor applications.
