MTT-S 2007: TriQuint Introduces New Ground Terminal SATCOM PAs

Honolulu -- IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium -- TriQuint Semiconductor announced the release of two new satellite communications (SATCOM) high-power amplifiers (HPAs), TGA4916 and TGA4906.

TriQuint's newest amplifiers offer better performance in a smaller area, plus greater cost effectiveness for the design of SATCOM ground terminal RF chipsets. TriQuint's newest HPAs are utilized in products that deliver satellite-based Internet service, data transfer and video uploads/downloads. Typical home and business usages include data connectivity for ATMs, supermarkets/retail outlets, hotels, airlines, car rental agencies.

TriQuint's new products are being showcased at the 2007 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium in Honolulu, Hawaii. These high performance gallium arsenide (GaAs) MMICs (monolithic microwave integrated circuits) were developed as part of the company's continuing program to drive the evolution of VSAT (very small aperture terminal) components for ground station RF systems.

"TriQuint detailed our 3-part vision on May 21st for simplifying Network connectivity needs in next-generation systems. Our new VSAT products are examples of that strategy in action. TriQuint's vision includes providing more integrated devices for size and cost-constrained applications, more packaged product options — especially in the high frequency area, and a simpler way to access our products," remarked TriQuint Product Marketing Director Paul Gilgallon.

TriQuint's two new products address OEM needs for smaller, more highly integrated designs and will be offered as packaged devices later this year.

"There are two primary forces driving the development of new products for VSAT RF front-end applications," remarked Gilgallon. "In the area of die-level products, the push for high integration is a major factor, and TriQuint leads here. Programs like ours have led to cost reductions while continuing to increase performance. The other trend is packaging. TriQuint continues to package more of our die-level products in response to market needs, increasing access for new and existing customers to our extensive portfolio. Greater availability of packaged parts enables more design options while simplifying assembly. Advantages such as these can lead to new market possibilities for our customers."

TriQuint's new TGA4916 is a Ka-Band, fully monolithic 7W HPA suited for VSAT ground terminal applications. Also introduced today is the TGA4906, a ‘half-chip' version of the TGA4916. Packaged versions of both devices are scheduled to be available in the second half of 2007.
