Low Phase Noise Reference Oscillator: XO5085

Source: MtronPTI

Low phase noise, high frequency reference oscillators improve signal-to-noise ratios in microwave radios, RF/EW/ATE,  radar systems, spectrum analyzers and more. The XO5085 covers the 50 MHz to 160 MHz range, has very low phase noise and comes in a 1” sq. package.

In older synthesizer designs, a 10 MHz reference would be multiplied up, degrading phase noise by 20 log N, where N is the multiplication factor. Additional filtering or more complex synthesizing techniques were needed to be used to ensure spectral purity. Using instead a 100MHz XO5085 reduces the multiplication needed, lowering overall system phase noise and also cost and complexity. In a hermetic 1” x 1” package, with phase noise down -170 dBc @ 10 kHz offset, the XO5085  is perfect for portable or airborne systems. The XO5085 is also RoHS compliant.
