Application Note

Ka-Band Target Tracking Radar Sensor

Source: Ducommun Inc.

By Liang Han, PhD., Ducommun Technologies, Inc

Tracking radar is different from search radar in that it automatically keeps its beam axis pointed towards a specific target. A common technique used in tracking radar is monopulse, or simultaneous lobe comparison. This application note provides an over the monopulse principle, and an improved technique for the application of target tracking systems. The technique uses a Ka-band sensor module developed with separated T/R antennas and direct I-Q demodulate receivers. Download the full paper for more information on this technique and design considerations discussed on the functional diagram level.
