High Performance SMD OCXOs

Based on new R&D OCXO approaches and the usage of new phase noise-optimized SC-cut crystals the KVG engineers succeeded to improve the electrical and thermal design of their OCXOs in order to create new high performance OCXO products that extend the possible applications of these small SMD parts.

In addition to the excellent low phase noise performance, these High Performance SMD OCXOs show tight frequency stability of ±5 ppb (±5 x 10-9) in the temperature range of –20 °C to 70 °C, respectively ±10 ppb from –40 to 85 °C. The long term stability (aging) is better than ±1 ppb per day, better than ±0.1 ppm per year and less than ±1 ppm within 15 years.

The phase noise at 10 Hz from the carrier is better than -130 dBc/Hz (optional - 135 dBc/Hz); at 100 Hz it's -155 dBc/Hz already and at 1 kHz distance you can get - 165 dBc/Hz; the so-called ‘noise floor' is in the range of -170 dBc/Hz, typically.

Obviously the new series 6000 OCXOs can meet the frequency stability requirements according to Telcordia (Bellcore) 1244-CORE Stratum 3E, GR-253-CORE (Issue 3) and ITU - T. G.812 (option 3), i.e. an overall frequency stability of better than ±4.6 ppm over 20 years and – even more important – a 24 hour ‘holdover stability' of better than ±12 ppb.

Due to the low phase noise figures, these high performance OCXOs are designed for a supply voltage of 12 V; the ouput signal is a pure sine wave with 6 dBm min. at low harmonics.

The standard frequency is 10 MHz; further frequencies are available on request.

The series 6000 High Performance OCXOs are ideal for applications that need tight frequency stability and excellent short term stability and phase noise performance while maintaining a compact SMD package – like reference clock for mobile test & measurement systems, microwave signal sources and medical instruments.
