WJ Communications forms Thin Film Products Group

WJ Communications announced the formation of the Thin Film Products Group to supplement its semiconductor product line. The thin film circuit design and manufacturing product line has generally been captive to WJ Communication's Integrated Products Group, providing leading edge designs utilizing patented solid via and laser machining irregular substrate technology. Thier thin film product is 99.6% polished alumina on the industry's first 6-inch commercially available blanks. The products are targeted at RF circuits above 10 GHz.

"We continue to leverage our core technology to expand our business and participate in fast growing industry segments," said Malcolm Caraballo, President and Chief Executive Officer of WJ Communications. "For the last 6 months, WJ Communications has been expanding its capacity in thin film to handle external sales in anticipation of this product announcement."

With the formation of the Thin Film Products group, the company has received design wins and initial orders for products used in wireless high frequency transceiver applications. Thin film products are also being designed into millimeter wave transceiver applications. Quantities are expected to be hundreds of thousands of pieces per year and the company plans to begin shipments late in the fourth quarter of 2000.
