Murata Develops RF Dielectric Filters For W-CDMA Amplifiers

Murata Electronics North America, a world-leading innovator in electronics and the largest global supplier of ceramic passive components, today introduced two new RF (radio frequency) dielectric filters. These block-type filters measure only 10.6mm x 6.0mm x 4.8mm and require 72 percent less mounting space than previous generations of filters. In addition to their compact size, the DFCL filter series provides excellent selectivity and ripple performance, which are critical features in wireless code division multiple access (W-CDMA) Band 1 digital pre-distortion (DPD) and long term evolution (LTE) DPD amplifiers.

The series also features a highly sophisticated multi-pole design to ensure that wanted signals are properly passed while others are rejected. In addition to good selectivity, the DFCL series filters offer ripples of 0.4dB max. @ f0+/-30MHz and 1.2dB max. @ f0+/-65MHz, producing the wide and flat curves required at the pass band by DPD amplifier designs. These characteristics are ideal for cellular base station applications that use DPD, but Murata's new filters can also be implemented in lower power and smaller base stations known as microcellls and femtocells. Also, the sophisticated filters provide low insertion loss and high attenuation.

"Murata's successful goal of dramatically reducing RF filter size greatly helps the market as it moves towards smaller repeaters such as picocells," stated Scott Klettke, Senior Group Product Manager RF & Microwave for Murata Electronics North America. "By committing to the miniaturization of these filters while supplying a wide pass band, good selectivity, and flat performance over the bandwidth, Murata can provide a desirable product that meets current and future needs."

Both filters in the DFCL series are available for $6.00 (1,000 pieces) and the lead-time is approximately ten weeks. For more information, visit www.murata-northamerica.com.

Aside from RF filters, Murata's products for use in communications systems includes antennas, RF diode switches, RF sub modules, ceramic filters, dielectric resonators, high frequency coaxial connectors, isolators, chip multilayer hybrid baluns and couplers, VCO and PLL modules.
