Alereon Receives FCC Modular Certification For Worldwide Wireless USB Half-MiniCard
Alereon, Inc., the Certified Wireless USB technology leader for Ultra Wideband (UWB) WiMedia solutions, announced recently they have received FCC modular certification for its AL5708 Worldwide Wireless USB Half-MiniCard. The AL5708, which provides Wireless USB connectivity for laptops and desktop PCs, is the first and only FCC approved Wireless USB embedded notebook solution for use in UWB bandgroups one, three and six.
Alereon's AL5708, which is PCI Express (PCIe) type H2 compliant, is based on the AL5000 family chipset that covers the entire UWB spectrum from 3.1–10.6 GHz. In addition, the AL5708 is the only solution to-date that supports bi-directional, isochronous data transfers both in and out allowing manufacturers to support common consumer devices such as USB speakers and webcams.
"PC developers require worldwide solutions that allow them to connect to the common USB devices consumers are already using," said Eric Broockman, Alereon's CEO. "The AL5708 not only offers a full range of Wireless USB capabilities that meets worldwide regulatory requirements, but our current performance of over 140Mbps throughput to a native device allows consumers to watch video, transfer files and work wirelessly today without noticing they do not have a USB cable."
