By the usage of self-manufactured noise-optimized 3rd and 5th overtone SC-cut crystals and noise-minimized electronic circuits KVG's engineers succeeded in designing new RF OCXOs at frequencies 100 MHz and 125 MHz that provide very low phase noise extending the range of applications for these kind of small packages.

For a 100 MHz output signal the phase noise at 100 Hz from the carrier is better than -130 dBc/Hz; at 1 kHz it's -155 dBc/Hz already and at 10 kHz distance you can get -165 dBc/Hz; the socalled ‘noise floor' is in the range of -170 dBc/Hz, typically.

In addition to the excellent phase noise performance the new OCXOs show good frequency stability of ±20 ppb (±2 x 10-8) in the temperature range of 20 to +70 °C. The long term stability (Aging) ist better than ±1 ppm in 15 years.

The parts are housed with an European standard package size of 36 mm x 24 mm x 20 mm for the thruhole part; the SMD-Type with 25 mm x 22 mm x 20 mm is still in R&D stage; samples will be available from May 2009, probably.

The series 3000-ULPN (Ultra Low Phase Noise) OCXOs are dedicated for communication technology applications what need excellent short term stability and phase noise performance – like reference clock for microwave signal sources, professionell satellite receivers, radar applications and many measurement and medical applications (magnetic resonance imaging). Due to the hermetically sealed package the OCXOs are suitable for applications with demanding environmental requirements (humidity, dust), as it is requested for many military or avionic applications.
