Tektronix To Showcase Industry Leading Real-Time Signal Analysis Portfolio At 2013 MTT-S IMS Event

Applications Span Spectrum Management, Radio Communications, Radar, Electronic Warfare and WLAN Signal Testing

Tektronix, Inc., a leading, worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced the company will feature the industry’s most extensive and advanced set of RF and Microwave signal generation and analysis solutions at the IEEE MTT-S 2013 International Microwave Symposium (IMS) June 4-6 in booth #820. Tektronix will showcase solutions across its portfolio for such applications as radio communications, spectrum management, radar and electronic warfare, and WLAN 802.11xx signal testing. On hand will be the new AWG70000 series arbitrary waveform generator that offers the industry’s best combination of high sample rate, long waveform memory and deep dynamic range. In addition, attendees will be able to experience Tektronix’ premier Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer solutions along with the world’s first mixed domain oscilloscope.

The growth of digital RF across a crowded wireless spectrum has led to the need for signal analyzers able to capture the briefest of spectrum occurrences. Tektronix stands as the first test and measurement provider to address this need with its revolutionary DPX spectrum display technology that provides an intuitive live color view of signal transients as they change over time.Today, Tektronix offers the industry’s broadest and most advanced portfolio of instruments equipped with DPX real-time signal analysis capabilities, extending from H500/SA2500 hand-held models to the high-performance RSA6000 series for the most demanding applications.

“Now more than ever, RF engineers need real-time signal analysis for short duration signals, fast spurious measurements, and efficient troubleshooting,” said Jim McGillivary, general manager of the Source Analyzer Product Line, Tektronix. “While some vendors are just getting started in meeting these needs, Tektronix invented the category and we are continuing to innovate with new instruments such as SPECMON for RF field interference hunting and the new mid-range RSA5000 spectrum analyzer.”

For spectrum management applications, one Tektronix demonstration will focus on the challenges users face in attempting to capture and identify unknown signals using conventional technologies. Attendees will then see firsthand how SPECMON can discover and capture events as short as 3.7 µs with 100 percent probability of intercept, making it easy to find and troubleshoot interferers fast.

From there, attendees will have the opportunity to take the DPX Challenge which will involve determiningthe source of six signals shown on a live display. Attendees who can identify correctly will be entered in a drawing to win an iPad Mini tablet.

For engineers in the radar and electronic warfare segment, Tektronix will be demonstrating how the new AWG70000 arbitrary waveform generator can be used to generate multiple high-speed radar pulses. Then, density trigger modes on the RSA6000 series spectrum analyzers will be used to isolate specific radar signals with high dynamic ranges up to 110 MHz.

The AWG70000 offers bandwidth on demand by generating wide bandwidth signals at baseband, IF and RF frequencies up to 20GHz, with greater than -80 dBc dynamic range. With up to 16 GSamples of waveform memory, it can generate unique signals that are long enough to simulate real world environments, making it the most flexible wideband signal generation product available today.

Wi-Fi continues to gain speed and market acceptance, driving the need for affordable signal quality testing for WLAN 802.11xx signals. Along with partner Octoscope, Tektronix will demonstrate the use of an MDO4000 mixed domain oscilloscope to analyze 802.11g bursts. The MDO4000 is the world’s first oscilloscope with a built-in spectrum analyzer, and another example of the type of innovation Tektronix continues to bring to the microwave and RF markets year after year.
