Tropian Launches Timestar TR15431N Multimode RF Transceiver For GSM, GPRS And EDGE Standards

Cupertino, CA -- Tropian, Inc., a developer of multimode radio solutions for advanced wireless devices, announced sample availability of its quad-band RF transceiver integrated circuit, Timestar TR15431N, for GSM/GPRS/EDGE standards. The Timestar was built using Tropian's patented Polar Impact technology in combination with direct conversion receiver architecture.

According to Brian Modoff, senior wireless equipment analyst at Deutsche Bank, GSM, GPRS and EDGE will represent the largest portion of the wireless handset market in 2005 and early 2006, with 3G W-CDMA and EDGE volumes beginning to dominate in 2006. "The market is clearly evolving to accommodate demand for high-functionality, feature-rich handsets," Modoff comments. "Smaller and more efficient transceivers will be critical to the success of EDGE and manufacturers looking to capitalize on it."

"The EDGE standard is rapidly developing to be the volume leader, both in standalone EDGE handsets, and as a key component of W-CDMA devices. Tropian's Timestar radio takes the EDGE market to the next level in terms of both performance and efficiency, enabling handset manufacturers and operators to realize the full potential of the standard," said Adrian Woolley, vice president of Marketing and Sales at Tropian. "With initial samples in the hands of some of the industry's leading handset manufacturers today and with key reference designs in the works, the Tropian Timestar TR15431N provides a new realm of possibilities and freedom in handset development."
