The new intermodulation measurement option for the Rohde & Schwarz R&S ZNB series of vector network analyzers (VNAs) enables the instruments to measure intermodulation distortion. Providing an intuitive intermodulation wizard and using the two independent generators in the ZNB, the it greatly simplifies test setup and measurements.

The R&S ZNB-K14 intermodulation measurement option makes it extremely easy to configure two‑tone measurements, guiding users step by step through the test setup. With the intermodulation wizard, users simply select the source for the second tone, the frequency spacing between the two tones, and the intermodulation parameters to be measured.

The R&S ZNB can even provide the second tone using the R&S ZNB-B2 second internal generator, which adds a second internal source to the instrument. Compared to an external signal generator controlled via GPIB or LAN, measurement speed is improved by more than a factor of 10, plus the test setup is simplified. The R&S ZNB can also perform two-tone measurements on frequency-converting devices such as converters and mixers. By adding an external signal generator, it is possible, for example, to drive the mixer by the R&S ZNB’s two internal generators to deliver the two tones, while the external signal generator furnishes the LO signal. The external generator can also be configured and controlled by the wizard.

The R&S ZNB offers performance and features previously found only in high-end instruments. The R&S ZNB comes with frequency ranges from 9 kHz to 4.5 GHz or 8.5 GHz and in two-port and four-port models. It has a dynamic range of up to 140 dB and a sweep time of 4 ms with 401 points. Trace noise is an exceptionally low 0.004 dB RMS, and output power is up to +13 dBm adjustable in a range of –85 dBm to +13 dBm. The instrument's intuitive user interface lets users access most of the instrument’s functions with just three operating steps. The large 12.1‑inch touchscreen displays even complex measurements with multiple traces in a clear and straightforward manner.
