Rockwell Collins Introduces High-Speed Transceivers For In-Flight Communications

Geneva, Switzerland -- Rockwell Collins is introducing High Speed Transceivers (HST) to support growth to Inmarsat SwiftBroadband service for business jet and VIP operators. The HST-2110 and HST-2120 are companion products to Rockwell Collins' SAT-6100 and SAT-906 satellite communication systems (SATCOM).

"The HST-2110 and 2120 offer maximum productivity and flexibility by enabling a full-range of in-flight e-mail, Internet, VPN and secure phone services today, while providing a growth path to faster connectivity with the pending arrival of SwiftBroadband," said Denny Helgeson, vice president, general manager, Business and Regional Systems for Rockwell Collins.

The two-MCU units are both small and lightweight at 8.5 pounds each. The HST-2110 supports one 64 kbps Swift64 channel today and will support one 432 kbps Swift Broadband channel when the service becomes available from Inmarsat. The HST-2120 supports two 64 kpbs Swift 64 channels today, and like the HST-2110, will support one 432 kbps SwiftBroadband channel when the service becomes available from Inmarsat. Both HSTs will maintain Swift64 capability for use when leaving SwiftBroadband coverage. A software upgrade and the addition of a small high-speed data configuration module will complete the steps necessary for SwiftBroadband service.

Additionally, the HSTs are equipped with Ethernet, ISDN, ISDN over Ethernet and RS-232 interfaces and can be installed inside or outside the pressure vessel for maximum installation flexibility. With the SAT-6100 or SAT-906 system, both HSTs enable simultaneous operation of voice and high speed data channels.
