Radiocrafts Release World's Smallest Shielded Mioty Module For Massive LPWAN

Radiocrafts announces a small compact shielded LPWAN RF module using Mioty radio protocol for massive IoT deployments.

Radiocrafts AS, a leading provider of RF modules and wireless connectivity solutions, announced today a new family of RF modules for massive IoT deployments using the new Mioty radio protocol. It is targeting Smart Metering, Smart City and Industrial sensor applications on a massive scale.

The compact module RC1882CEF-MIOTY1, measuring only 12.7 x 25.4 mm, is the first shielded RF module with a complete Mioty stack designed for industrial use and volume production. The radio module is completely shielded to avoid electromagnetic interference and allowing for a modular certification.

The Mioty radio protocol implements the ETSI TS 103 357 specifying UNB-TS using Ultra-narrowband radio and Telegram Splitting to achieve unprecedented range and interference resistance. This new radio technology represents an innovative solution for massive IoT deployments. Telegram Splitting ensures high resistance to interference, reducing packet loss in noisy environments and crowded shared spectrum.

“The new LPWAN technology has created a lot of interest since the Mioty Alliance was announced in February. Radiocrafts is now enabling customers to quickly evaluate the new technology” says Peder Martin Evjen, Managing Director at Radiocrafts. ”As the first to offer a compact and shielded RF module suitable for mass production, we are again enabling customers to get fast to market with proven quality”.

The module is supported by a Development Kit consisting of two Development Boards and accessories that out-of-the-box can be connected to a PC, and ready to send application data to a Mioty gateway. The module will work with any third-party Mioty gateway.

The initial release is a one-way solution for data transmission but will be upgraded to bi-directional as soon as the infrastructure for this is in place. Also a US, FCC compliant variant is planned. The European variant at 868 MHz is available as evaluation samples, and Development Kits.

Key features of the new MIOTY module and Mioty technology:

  • LPWAN: Ultra-narrowband radio with Telegram Splitting technology
  • Highly resistant to interference
  • Only LPWAN for massive IoT deployments
  • More than a million messages per day in one network (single gateway)
  • Typical 15 km line-of-sight, 5 km in urban environment
  • License free 868 MHz for Europe. 915 MHz for US / FCC (to be released)
  • Very low power consumption, short radio transmissions, battery friendly
  • Shielded compact module, only 12.7 x 25.4 mm, delivered on T&R

About Radiocrafts AS:
Radiocrafts is a leading RF module design and manufacturing company. Radiocrafts’ standard RF modules provide compact, easy-to-use, low cost, low power and high-performance RF solutions for a large number of wireless applications using license-free ISM bands. Using modules OEM manufacturers without RF design knowledge can easily add wireless technology into their design, reducing time-to-market, cost of design, test and compliance approvals.
