At IBC, Rohde & Schwarz will showcase its product portfolio for the entire 4K video transmission path. On display will be products for post production, ingest, storage, playout, encoding and multiplexing as well as transmitters for this high-resolution standard. The company has also added new features to its T&M equipment to test 4K devices. Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate live how its latest transmitter generation significantly reduces transmission costs. The latest solutions from the expert in broadcasting technology can be seen in hall 7, booth E25.
Rohde & Schwarz offers a complete product line for the high-resolution 4K transmission path. Many of these products are already in operation in a wide range of applications. The R&S AVHE100 headend was used to broadcast the FIFA World Cup live in 4K. The BMM-810 multiviewer and content monitoring system from Rohde & Schwarz subsidiary GMIT were used to monitor the 4K/UHD broadcast. Broadcast operator KBS uses terrestrial Rohde & Schwarz transmitters to broadcast the first 4K programs in Korea and Rohde & Schwarz T&M equipment to maintain the broadcast quality. Network operators and OTT providers can improve their broadcast efficiency with Rohde & Schwarz headend and monitoring solutions. For a given bandwidth, HEVC encoding can be used to transmit more services and improve the picture resolution quality.
Subsidiary Rohde & Schwarz DVS has been offering systems for 4K processing in cinema post production since 2005. The R&SCLIPSTER mastering station processes 4K data in realtime. It supports mezzanine formats such as AS-02 and AS-11 and can generate the necessary interoperable master format (IMF) packages up to 4K. R&SCLIPSTER supports Dolby Atmos, allowing post production studios to create Dolby Atmos DCPs that can be easily integrated into existing workflows to increase efficiency.
The R&SSpycerBox Cell is used to store the massive volumes of data in 4K or even 8K production environments. Thanks to the web-based SAN Remo management software, the devices can easily be configured in clusters. 36 TB of storage and a maximum data throughput of 3 Gbyte/s per unit in just one height unit make the R&SSpycerBox Cell an exceptional combination of performance and functionality.
At this year's IBC, the transmission technology for TV, FM and DAB+ will be presented under a very special aspect. Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate live how the R&S Tx9 transmitter generation helps reduce the operating costs of transmitter networks. This transmitter generation features maximum energy efficiency, an extremely compact design and innovative redundancy concepts that can reduce costs by more than 70 %.
Rohde & Schwarz will be located in hall 7 at booth 25, where T&M applications for the DOCSIS 3.1 standard and for testing professional SAT receivers will also be on display. A press breakfast will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014, at 10.30 a.m.
