Heriot-Watt University Researchers Design Novel RF Filters With NI AWR Software

What:
Planar RF/microwave filters are very useful for applications where size, weight and cost are important. Lossy filters, in particular, enable designers to achieve compactness while avoiding the use of expensive, high-Q materials. A team of researchers at Heriot-Watt recently used NI AWR Design Environment, specifically Microwave Office circuit design software, to design an advanced lossy extracted-pole filter to meet the challenges of compactness and cost.

“The ease of use and intuitiveness of the software helped us get up and running quickly,” said Jiasheng Hong, professor at Heriot-Watt. “In addition, the help we received from the NI AWR software support team enabled us to overcome several of the more sophisticated design challenges we faced.’’
