HaiLa Technologies Introduces Ultra-Low Energy Backscatter Bluetooth Communication Solution

Montreal, QC (BUSINESS WIRE) - HaiLa Technologies Inc., a company specializing in the development of ultra-low power radio communications solutions for the IoT, today announced that it has demonstrated Bluetooth backscatter communication technology, representing a significant milestone in the development of energy-efficient wireless communications powered by ambient energy.

Passive backscatter paves the way to reduce the power consumption of connected devices, reaching near-zero power consumption. Adapting HaiLa’s backscatter technology to Bluetooth technology allows using only a fraction of the energy of Bluetooth or Bluetooth Low Energy radio architectures, thereby reducing the battery size of IoT devices and using a single battery throughout the product’s lifetime.

“In applications ranging from smart connected buildings to medical and consumer devices, our target end users are looking for solutions that can extend battery life while leveraging wireless communication protocols like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth,” said Patricia Bower, vice president, product management at HaiLa. “The addition of Bluetooth backscatter to our ultra-low power Wi-Fi backscatter solution reinforces our commitment to addressing these needs, particularly for consumer electronics, and providing the most energy-efficient radio communication technologies for the IoT.”

As demand for connected devices grows, it is essential to consider their environmental impact. With radio technologies typically being the largest driver of power consumption in battery-powered wireless devices, HaiLa’s advancements in dramatically reducing radio power consumption will help address the growing challenge of battery waste attributed to IoT devices.
