Femtosecond Digital Delay Generator: Model 745

Source: Berkeley Nucleonics Corporation

Berkeley Nucleonics’ model 745 femtosecond digital delay offers 250 fs resolution and 5 picosecond jitter. It’s ideal for applications involving range finding, high speed camera gating, radar/lidar testing, triggering ballistics testing, delaying and gating ICCDs, controlling flash lamps and Q-switches, and syncing with selectable external clock frequencies in mode locked lasers.

This digital delay generator, or DDG, offers 4 precision delay channels from the front panel with an additional 4 channel option on the rear panel. It features 25 ps jitter (external trigger) and down to 5 ps (internal trigger). Typical jitter at various delays:

  • Internal Trigger, Delays < 100ns: 2 picoseconds
  • Internal Trigger, Delays > 100ns: 15 picoseconds + timebase
  • External Trigger, Delays < 100ns: 25 picoseconds
  • External Trigger, Delays > 100nS: 25 picoseconds + timebase

Additional features include:

  • 250 fs time resolution
  • Down to 5 ps jitter (int trigger)
  • 25 ps jitter (ext trigger)
  • Output risetimes typically 1 ns
  • Selectable clock inputs (10MHz to 80MHz, user may specify a value to the nearest 100 kHz)
  • Ethernet GUI - Complete Configuration Displayed
  • Up to 64 Channels Displayed on 1 GUI
