A key factor in ensuring maximum transfer of power between an antenna and the transmitter/receiver circuitry is to perform impedance matching of high-frequency components in the antenna design. In order to quickly and efficiently tune an antenna to resonate at a desired frequency, a matching circuit should be designed first rather than making modifications to the antenna’s physical dimensions. This application note describes the design and matching of a 60 GHz printed antenna using a design flow that combines NI AWR Design Environment with Optenni Lab™ matching circuit software.
