Simplifying BOM Without Sacrificing Performance
By Dielectric Laboratories (DLI)
Capacitors are a fundamental building block for RF and microwave systems as they are often used to create filters, generate DC protection, and build bypass networks. Designers often use approximate equations to predict capacitor values and find the final RF performance. However, as a system constantly requires higher performance levels, these assumptions are no longer valid. This article discusses how to improve RF performance by using fewer capacitors that block DC and pass AC current, and how to choose these capacitors based on real world performance.
