T1300 TCXO Series Offers Ultra-Low Acceleration Sensitivity For Vibration And Shock Sensitive Apps

Greenray Industries T1300 TCXO Series is relatively impervious to effects of shock and vibration and represents a major breakthrough for compact, low-power TCXO performance. Utilizing a combination of proprietary crystal and oscillator design techniques, the T1300 offers g-sensitivity of <0.05 ppb, or 5 x 10- 11/g of applied acceleration force.

An order of magnitude improvement when compared with the best performance of commercial TCXOs currently available, and it enables customers to extend their system operating environment while maintaining spec-compliant operation. Operating under random vibration, the T1300 offers phase noise improvements better than 40 dB compared to conventional TCXOs — and most OCXOs. Available from 10 to 50 MHz. Frequency stability is ±1ppm (-40 to +70° C). Supply voltage is +5 V or +3.3 Vdc. Low phase noise output is CMOS compatible with 50/50 ±5% duty cycle. EFC is provided for precise tuning or phase locking applications.

The Association of Old Crows (AOC) is a not-for-profit, international professional association with over 13,500 members and 100+ organizations engaged in the science and practice of electronic warfare (EW), information operations (IO), and related disciplines.

AOC has members in 47 countries, with 65 chapters in 19 countries. AOC's membership includes executives, scientists, engineers, managers, operators, educators, and military personnel. Founded in 1964, the AOC owns a headquarters building in Alexandria, VA, just outside Washington, DC.

The name "Old Crows" emerged from the first large-scale use of electronic warfare during the WWII Battle of Britain and the U.S. and allied bombing raids over Europe. The Allied Radar Countermeasure operators used the code name "Ravens" and employed receivers and transmitters to monitor and jam threat frequencies. Military jargon later changed "Ravens" to "Crows." This year's 46th Annual AOC International Symposium & Convention will be held at the Marriott Wardman Hotel in Washington, DC, on October 18 to 22, 2009.

RF Leadless Ceramic SMT Packages

Remtec designs and manufactures cost-effective, hermetic (to 10-8) ceramic leadless SMT substrates and packages with PCTF® technology for RF components and modules. Copper metallization suitable for RF signal transmission creates excellent heat spreading beneath a die. Solid thermal vias (K > 200 W/M°K) greatly reduce thermal resistance, acting as signal and ground connections for packages. Both via holes and wraparounds provide low-inductance interconnects essential for high-frequency performance. Embedded resistors and transmission lines result in high integration levels and miniaturization. The capability of directly soldering large (>16 mm), leadless ceramic SMT packages onto PCBs is a unique benefit. PCTF products operate in broad frequency ranges, from DC to 40 GHz, with enhanced thermal management. Excellent solderability, capability to withstand multiple soldering at 300° C, and RoHS compliance, combined with low upfront tooling and high reliability, are additional benefits. Remtec also offers microwave modeling, circuit design, test, and assembly.

See us in June at MTT-S 2009 in Booth 611 and in October at MILCOM 2009 in Booth 263.

Electromagnetic noise and interference (EMI) from external sources can adversely affect the stable operation of communications equipment. And as communication devices achieve higher performance and greater compactness, more innovative solutions are required to meet standards for protecting against EMI. NTT Advanced Technology Corporation (NTT-AT) NoiseBEAT tape features layers of magnetic film possessing high electromagnetic wave absorption properties. Since this thin, lightweight tape is just 60 μm thick and weighs less than 4 g/m (non-aluminum type), it can be wrapped inside the cable. As a result, NoiseBEAT cables are not bulky and offer a superior approach to solving the problems of EMI. NoiseBEAT also allows you to develop lighter, more compact devices and lets you make devices that require a large number of cables less cumbersome.

SoftPlot +Plus+ Version 8 Improves Test Equipment Productivity Even Further

Since the launch of SoftPlot, thousands of engineers have used it to transform their measurements into high-quality plots in documents and presentations. SoftPlot significantly improves on hardcopy plots by extracting the trace data from instruments over GPIB, LAN, or RS232 and then allowing the data to be graphed or exported. The graticule type and scaling can be redefined, markers and limit lines can be added, and math functions can be applied to the trace data. These are just some examples from a broad feature range that have established SoftPlot as the utility of choice.

SoftPlot +Plus+ has all the functionality of SoftPlot, and in addition adds scripting capability for test automation. Together with 100 trace stores, and independent x-axis data for each store, it supports well over 200 test equipment models from the major manufacturers.

Mician μWave Wizard™

Mician offers the full wave, 3- D simulation software, μWave Wizard™. Typical applications for μWave Wizard™ are complex passive waveguide components, structures like waveguide and comb line filters, couplers, tapers, multiplexers, and horn antennas.

The tool is using the fast and accurate mode-matching technique and their derivatives (e.g. Boundary-Contour-Mode- Matching), as well as the flexible 2-D FE- and 3-D FE-Method. In order to simulate the response of a structure, it first has to be broken down into basic building blocks. The program then calculates the scattering parameters for each individual building block and performs multimodal element connections to simulate the response of the entire structure. This concept eliminates the need for creating a full-up 3-D model.

Among others, μWave Wizard includes features such as 64 bit capability (including multiprocessor capabilities), and fast frequency sweep based on adaptive rational function interpolation.

SUBSYSTEMS AND SYSTEMS — Milsat Communications Equipment

SATCOM Pre-Filter Amplifier

The SATCOM pre-filter amplifier provides 30 dB of transmit band rejection with minimum impact on LNA noise figure. This RF module combines a low-loss input filter with a low-noise amplifier, followed by a final clean-up filter. The module, housed in a small, surface mount package, measures 4" x 1" x 0.5". Microstrip input and output launches facilitate PCB attachment. Typical noise figure is 1.2 dB with 14 dB gain. The LNA is set for 14 dB gain, but can be set as high as 20 dB. The input filter minimizes transmit band co-site interference, reducing transmit third-order products in the SATCOM receive band. A final bandpass filter further reduces out-of-band interference for a clean receive channel signal. The entire cascade maintains less than 1 dB flatness across the full receive band. The module operates from a single 5-volt power supply, with a small 65 mA current draw.

The WaveCor™ Synthesized Local Oscillator (SLO) is the next step in DDSbased synthesizer evolution and is designed to dramatically reduce the typical cost disadvantage of digital synthesizers. Where the WaveCor™ SLO 20.0 differentiates itself, though, is in the value proposition it provides. The price of this synthesizer is very much cost competitive with commercially available YIG-based synthesizers.

The WaveCor™ SLO is realized by leveraging ITT's patented, low-spurious DDS technology, which utilizes 2.5 GHz of useable bandwidth from the DDS output. This advanced technology provides exceptional, spurious-free dynamic range combined with low phase noise, precise frequency control, and ultra-fast switching.
