M/A-COM announces two new families of HMIC mixers, including a family of high-barrier mixers for use in base stations and other infrastructure equipment, as well as a family of medium- and low-barrier mixers for cellular handsets and LAN applications.

Housed in standard SOT-25 packages, the MA4EX950H-1225 mixer, MA4EX180H-1225 mixer, MA4EX240H-1225 mixer and MA4EX370H-1225 mixer are high-barrier, double balanced, passive mixers that operate efficiently at a LO drive level of + 13 dBm and produce higher input IP3 in excess of + 27 dBm for improved system linearity. "Next generation infrastructure systems require mixer solutions that provide higher overall performance in a smaller, low-cost package," said Mike Hebert, M/A-COM Product Group Manager. "These high-barrier mixers guarantee a +27 dBm input third-order intercept point with only +13 dBm LO drive level for exceptional system linearity in a compact, cost-effective package."

Available in SOT-25 and MSOP-8 packages, the MA4EX950L-1225 mixer, MA4EX900L-1226 mixer, MA4EX190L-1225 mixer, MA4EX950M-1225 mixer, MA4EX180M-1225 mixer, MA4EX240M-1225 mixer and MA4EX370M-1225 mixer are low- and medium-barrier mixers that provide the best overall affordable performance. "Especially at cellular frequencies," reports Richard Houlihan a senior design engineer at M/A-COM, "The low-barrier mixer delivers a +20 dBm Input third order intercept point and can operate with a LO drive level requirement as little as +3 dBm. Medium barrier mixers (+10 dBm LO drive level ) are suitable choices for moderate drive power systems, or the higher IP3 needs of portable and compact designs.
