Located in Technopark, Stellenbosch.
Started in 1994 as consultancy company.
EMSS has two main activities: Software (i.e. FEKO) Development for export and Consultancy. Consultancy in the following main areas: Radiation hazard analysis and compliance regulation for mobile phone industry, electromagnetic characterisation of naval environment, short projects for FEKO customers (particularly for automobile companies).
FEKO is a simulation tool that is used for electromagnetic field analysis of 3D structures. FEKO simulations are based on the solution to Maxwell’s equations by the well-known Method of Moments (MoM). FEKO features several extensions to the MoM technology – it is the most comprehensive MoM implementation in the market today.
Applications:
Antenna design, antenna placement analysis, electromagnetic interference (EMI) studies, RF circuit and component design, bioelectromagnetic analysis (e.g. studying the effects of a mobile phone on a human).
Industry sectors:
Automotive, aerospace, mobile phone and telecommunication communication industry. FEKO is almost exclusively developed for the export market with users in the USA, Europe, Australia, Japan, China, Taiwan and South Korea.
Some FEKO users:
Boeing (USA), Blaupunkt (Germany) , BMW (Germany), CSIR (South Africa), European Space Agency (EU), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (USA), General Motors (USA), Grintek Technologies (South Africa), Hirchmann Eletronics (Germany), Honda R&D Co. (Japan), Motorola (USA), Omnipless (South Africa), Nokia Research Center (Finland),Supelec (France), Toyota (Japan), Tusab Aerospace Industries (Turkey), Nissan Motor Company (Japan), Vodacom (South Africa)
