Switch Matrices

Source: Dow-Key Microwave Corp.

Switch matrices are typically used in the design verification or manufacturing phase of test systems. They’re designed to move signal routing and signal conditioning to a test system’s central location. This makes the characterization of the calibration plane between the DUT and the test equipment simpler, reduces insertion loss, improves signal integrity, and better controls phase issues. They can be used in both commercial wireless and aerospace/defense settings. This page provides an overview of Dow-Key Microwave’s offerings as it relates to switch matrices.

Electromechanical Switch Matrices

Dow-Key’s electromechanical switch matrices line is comprised of multiple switch models, giving the user the flexibility to add as many switches as they need for their particular application. Switches can be mixed and matched, and both terminated and non-terminated switches are supported.

Solid State Switch Matrices

Dow-Key’s solid state switch matrices are available in IF-band (20-200 MHz), L-band (950-2250 MHz), and broadband (50-2150 MHz) configurations. Each model is equipped with low noise amplifiers, an LCD and pushbutton keypad for local control, and an Ethernet interface for remote control.

Fiber Optic Switch Matrices

Dow-Key’s fiber optic switch matrix covers the 1535 to 1565 nm (C-Band) range and switches signals in the optical domain. It’s based on MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) technology, meaning that the switches use micro-mirrors to switch or reflect an optical channel or signal from one location to another. Fiber optic switch matrices benefit from the reduced size, power consumption, and overall cost associated with MEMS technology.
