Hi-rel integrated microwave assemblies (IMAs), assemblies with multiple functional blocks, are a key part of the aerospace and defense industry supply chain, and they figure to continue in this prominent role going forward. As recent as a decade ago, prime and tier 1 suppliers were sourcing components and fabricating assemblies and subsystems for themselves; however, there has been a significant change in mindset since then.
The need for economical solutions that are highly integrated, coupled with the desire to shrink program timelines, has prompted system suppliers to partner with IMA manufactures. IMA manufactures have the broad engineering expertise and technical know-how required to provide RF and microwave modules and subsystems complete with the electronics for control, monitoring, and calibration.
