Undesired emissions can occur in radars during frequency hopping techniques, when changes in pulse width or modulation are employed, or in staggered pulse repetition rate implementation. However, these frequency agility techniques enable radars to quickly change modes of operation on a pulse-to-pulse basis. In order to validate a radar system’s performance when these types of techniques are applied, thorough operations testing should be conducted. This application note discusses how to use a signal and spectrum analyzer with realtime and pulse measurement options to conduct these types of tests to ensure optimal radar performance.
