Today, GPS signals are used almost exclusively to synchronize multiple receiver sites. This provides the accuracy needed for the resulting time difference of arrivals (TDOAs) to be used in locating the signal source. Radiolocation accuracy and reliability depend on the time information from the receiver’s high-precision internal clock being inserted in the digital baseband stream (I/Q data). This application note provides detailed parameters and characteristics relevant for a receiver to be used as a TDOA sensor.
