Rakon Introduces MEMS Technology To Frequency Control Products Portfolio

Rakon, a leading global provider of frequency control solutions, recentlyl announced MEMS technology is being utilised to develop innovative new products to further broaden its oscillator product portfolio and capabilities.

Rakon’s Managing Director, Brent Robinson says the company has looked into the technology for many years and the timing is now right to further diversify its offering to include MEMS oscillators.

“We have always believed that MEMS has a place. Rakon is a global frequency control solutions provider, offering a complete and diversified product portfolio into multiple high growth markets. The addition of MEMS technology into our portfolio complements the existing range and enables us to fulfill additional customer requirements within new and existing markets that are synergistic with Rakon’s value proposition” he said.

The addition of MEMS products supports Rakon’s growth in telecommunications, smart wireless devices and high reliability markets, as well as fuels growth in networking, storage, servers, portable electronics, consumer and computing applications.

Rakon’s Sales & Marketing Director, Darren Robinson says the decision was initially driven by responding to key customer demands. 

“The next generation of our customers’ applications will continue to require the performance and cost that only quartz crystals can deliver, but there are applications well served by the unique attributes of MEMS. Rakon is renowned as a technology leader so offering both crystal and MEMS products enables Rakon to advise our customers, without bias, the best solutions that address the requirements of their specific applications.” 

Rakon has begun sampling oscillators using MEMS to select customers, with volume production ramping up in the fourth quarter of 2012.
