Application Note

Practical eNodeB Transmitter Measurements for LTE and TD-LTE Systems Using MIMO

Source: Anritsu Company

Remote Radio Heads (RRH) and MIMO pose an interesting challenge to network maintenance since RRHs are often installed at the top of towers or in inaccessible areas making direct connection to them virtually impossible. This application note discusses Over-the-Air (OTA) measurement techniques which enable field testing of RRHs and also how to test and troubleshoot the MIMO configuration without the need, in both scenarios, to connect directly to them.

Contents include:

  • MIMO measurement complications
  • Transmitter health checks based on control signals * Finding an OTA measurement "sweet spot"
  • OTA MIMO troubleshooting
  • Diagnosing transmitter failures
