Application Note

Passive Intermodulation (PIM) In In-Building Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS)

Source: Anritsu Company

The probability of harmful passive intermodulation (PIM) increases when mobile operators upgrade their existing in-building distributed antenna systems (DAS). Operators are able to reduce PIM interference and maximize site performance by using meticulous construction techniques with low PIM components. Unlike impedance mismatches, which reduce signal level regardless of location, the nonlinearities that produce PIM have varying impact depending on where they are located in the network. Download the application note for a discussion of insertion loss calculations, and the impact of insertion loss on PIM performance in DAS.
