New Power TVS Diode Models Deliver Lower Clamping Voltage Under Surge, Increased Performance Stability and Enhanced Reliability

Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, recently further expanded its comprehensive line of high power TVS (PTVS) diodes with a new high current bidirectional TVS diode offered in an SMD package. Designated the Bourns Models PTVS10-058C-SH and PTVS10-076C-SH, the new PTVS diodes provide necessary bidirectional port protection and are designed for use in high power DC bus clamping applications. Bourns designed its new PTVS diodes in an SMD package to deliver a 20 percent reduction in peak clamping voltage compared to the equivalent through-hole device because of its lower lead inductance. Customer designs benefit from reduced electrical stress on the protected circuitry, and can achieve simplified assembly and reduced costs by eliminating the extra design step in cases where the PTVS diode is the only through-hole component on the printed circuit board.

“Bourns’ use of silicon technology in its Power TVS products provides a lower clamping voltage under surge, greater performance stability and increased reliability compared to typical competing MOV technology,” said Ben Huang, Semiconductor Product Line Manager at Bourns, Inc. “Bourns is committed to further expansion of its leading PTVS product line to continually meet the dynamic port protection needs of OEMs.”

Both models provide very high surge current protection with a peak pulse current rating of 10 kA. The Bourns Model PTVS10-058C-SH features a 58 V standoff voltage and the Bourns model PTVS10-076C-SH has a 76 V standoff voltage.  In addition, these devices exhibit an excellent surge response versus temperature; the typical maximum surge current at 150 °C exceeds 70 % of its rated value at 25 °C.

Pricing and Availability
As a pricing reference, the Bourns models PTVS10-058C-SH and PTVS10-076C-SH are priced at $20.61 each in 10 piece quantities and $19.24 each in 500 piece quantities, respectively. Both models are available now, meet IEC 61000-4-5 8/20 μs current surge requirements and are RoHS compliant*. For more information, visit http://www.bourns.com/data/global/pdfs/PTVS10-0xxC-SH.pdf.
