According to Lucintel, aerospace market research and consulting company, the global avionics market will be about $8B by 2020 – nearly a 4% CAGR from today. Despite spending slowdowns in the last six years, total industry sales grew. Communication and navigation grew most, followed by control, radar and surveillance with North America taking largest share. Demand for new aircraft is steady and upgrades to older planes continue to improve performance and efficiency.

Modern commercial jet turbofans generate thousands of data points per second to manage fuel consumption and engine operation. An array of sensors, A/D converters, local computers and high speed data links all need to function in the nonair- conditioned space under the cowling or in the wing. These systems compare engine performance to computerized models to reduce fuel consumption and predict maintenance before problems develop – knowing the answers before the questions are asked. The timing heartbeat of these control systems is a temperature stable avionics oscillator like the HPO series.

Available in frequencies from 25 to 150 MHz with temperature stability of ±5 ppm and overall stability down to ±25 ppm standard, the MtronPTI HPO series is an ideal choice for real-time harsh environment control applications. Factory custom frequency selection allows first article units in two weeks or less with low rate initial production in about a month.

Operating temperature of -55 to +125 °C means an accurate frequency on the runway in Dubai or at Flight Level 390 (39,000’) cruising to Asia.
