Welcome To Our Radar Technology Spotlight Newsletter
|
Radar technology has benefited from advances in RF, microwave, and millimeter wave components; GaN devices; and engineering design software. One great example is the active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar that is integrated into fighter jets like the F-35 Lightning II. AESA radar has over one thousand transmit and receive modules that are electronically aimed to scan, track, and identify many air and ground targets at the same time.
The electronic design community has also made radar technology a part of everyday life. Compact 77 GHz radar modules make active safety systems like collision avoidance and blind spot detection possible in automobiles. Ultra-wideband radar is used in medicine for imaging and monitoring vital signs, while radar is used in several ISM bands to monitor tank levels in industrial processes. To learn more about the latest technology that makes these and other radar applications possible, check out our spotlight section below. |

A Multiphysics Approach To Magnetron And Microwave Oven Design
By CST of America, Inc.
The magnetrons used in microwave ovens operate on the same frequency band as Wi-Fi equipment, and the radiation they release can interfere with the operation of wireless networks. This paper presents a multiphysics simulation of a magnetron using CST STUDIO SUITE, with the aim of testing the electrical, magnetic, thermal, and mechanical characteristics of a low-interference magnetron design. The simulation results are then compared to measurements made experimentally, and the two sets of results are shown to be in good agreement.

Specification Sheet: High-Power Hybrids |
|
Corry Micronics 90º high-power hybrids cover a frequency range from 870 MHz to 2,200 MHz. A 90º hybrid has two outputs that maintain the same output level, but the signals on the two outputs are 90º apart. On these hybrids there is a fourth termination or isolation port that absorbs half of any reflected signals from any mismatch on either output. |
