How To Test An RF Coaxial Cable Using A Vector Network Analyzer

Source: Copper Mountain Technologies

By Copper Mountain Technologies

RF coaxial cables can be used to ensure the integrity of measurements taken by Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) and other test equipment. Ideal cables are able to transfer maximum RF energy while incurring as small amounts as possible. When it comes to testing these cables before use in an application, a practical method is sometimes needed over a comprehensive set of reporting on the construction of an RF cable and assessment of its many parameters. This application note presents an example of a simple and practical “do-it-yourself” cable test procedure with the use of a VNA, as well as its derived test results.
