Hermetically Sealed Coaxial Components For NMR Applications

Source: HUBER+SUHNER

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) systems require insulating layers to route the signals from their measuring area. This is because they work close to absolute zero with their requirement for highly accurate signal transmission and extremely low signal-to-noise ratio. HUBER+SUHNER has designed and developed hermetically sealed coaxial components specifically for NMR systems with these requirements in mind.

Because Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) systems work so absolute zero, the cables and plugs integrated into the system must be able to withstand such low temperatures. Vacuum conditions and all connections between the single chambers must be hermetically sealed to at high standard as well. HUBER+SUHNER has implemented new processes to improve their hermetically sealed coaxial connections. Today, leakage rates of 4xE-10 Torr l / s are attained. Glass beads are soldered or welded into existing 50 ohm structures with advanced material layers that provide electric compensation. Hermetically sealed O-rings are fitted to complete the relevant enclosures. In accordance with customer requirements, this solution is available for single components as well as multicoaxial ducts (see illustration with 14 MCX 2 SMA connectors).

HUBER+SUHNER uses state-of-the-art helium measuring equipment during the production and testing processes to ensure quality. The portfolio of hermetically sealed components includes both the conventional SMA, BNC and N connector families, as well as the user-friendly QMA and QN connectors developed by HUBER+SUHNER. Thermally pre-aged semi rigid steel cables are ideal for low-temperature applications in combination with these components.
