Using The Q/V Band For Satellite Feeder Links
By Hau Ho, Ronald Squires, and Christopher Brown; Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems
Owners of high-throughput satellites are increasingly looking for new ways to increase throughput while maintaining or improving the cost per bit. A key limitation of current Ka-band systems is the simultaneous use of Ka-band for both revenue generating user links and backhaul feeder links. The 40- and 50-GHz bands provide opportunity to move commercial high-throughput satellite feeder links out of Ka band, enabling full use of the Ka band for users.

Spotlight On Passive Components

Quadrature Hybrids Selection Guide
Quadrature hybrids are four-port directional couplers with a -3dB coupling coefficient. TRM Microwave offers high-reliability, space-qualified 90° and 180° quadrature hybrids along with standard models for land, air, and sea-based military architectures.

TCXOs And VCTCXOs Datasheet
Mtron PTI’s M6053/4, 6055/6, and 6065/6 series of TCXOs and VCTCXOs offer stability, tight tolerance, and low phase noise for radio systems requiring longer battery life, small size, and reduced weight.

Miniaturized Multi-Throw Coaxial Switch Datasheet
The WN series is a family of 1P7T to 1P10T miniaturized, multi-throw coaxial switches that covers the DC to 22-GHz frequency range. This series is available with latching self cut-off or normally open functions with terminations and features SMA connectors.

8-Way Power Divider/Combiner Datasheet
The JFW 50PD-746 8-way power divider/combiner covers the DC to 6-GHz frequency range and is ideal for testing radio transceivers in mesh networks. It allows signal connectivity over a wide bandwidth with minimal isolation.

Mini-SMT Resistors Datasheet
Mini-SMT thin film resistors offer maximum benefits in ohmic value ranges from .5 W through 500 MW. TCRi's to ±5ppm/°C, and absolute tolerance is to 0.05 percent. Available in 0505, 0805, and 1206 sizes, these resistors provide proven thin film performance in a surface-mount solderable style.

Ultra-Broadband, Low-Loss Power Divider Datasheet
Corry Micronics has developed a 6-way ultra-wide-band power divider that has a typical insertion loss of 2 dB with a frequency range from 800 MHz to 18 GHz. The 6-way power divider is rated at 30W CW or 5W CW per input channel. The design is compact and rugged.

Narrow-Band Directional Couplers Datasheet
KRYTAR’s new family of directional couplers offers some of lowest frequency couplers with stripline designs on the market. Stripline designs offer superior low insertion loss, high directivity, and tight coupling.

Current Limit Power Switch Datasheet
This programmed power switch features input current limits of 15 0mA to 2400 mA and has a +10 percent current accuracy at 2A input with its current limit setting. Its Vcc range runs from 2.5 V to 5.5 V, and its operating temperature range runs from -40 to 85°C.

7-mm Inductors Datasheet
The inductance adjustment range of Q3 type coils was deliberately stated below the attainable values by mechanically adjusting capability, in order to keep Q variations below 7 percent. A larger adjustment range is possible if Q variation is not of great importance to the circuit.

LVPECL 2:1 Multiplexer Datasheet
This LVPECL 2:1 multiplexer has a 440-ps propagation delay, an operating voltage of 3.0 to 5.5V, and internal input pull-down resistors. It’s well suited for low-voltage applications that require the ultimate AC performance.
