What:

NI (formerly AWR Corporation) announces that ELDIS Pardubice, a developer of complex radar technology and systems for air traffic control, has developed an omnidirectional phased array antenna using NI AWR Design Environment™, specifically Microwave Office circuit design software. The challenges were to show a true antenna element that has an omnidirectional pattern at azimuth plane, develop a feeding network for a 10-port antenna array with complex amplitude and phase built in a cosecant squared pattern, and, finally, calculate the antenna vector with the feeding network antenna array output on one side and a one-port input on the other side of the circuit.

Microwave Office software scripting tools enabled the designer to develop a visual basic macro to quickly and accurately analyze the complex feeding network. “With Microwave Office software, we were able to design and analyze the complex radar feeding network 30 percent faster,” said Dr. Vadim Zavodny, senior RF engineer at ELDIS Pardubice.
