Surface-Mount PIN Diodes For Radio Communications Systems

Skyworks Solutions, Inc. has introduced two high-power (>20W) series or shunt PIN diodes for T/R switch applications. In addition, the low thermal resistance package makes these devices ideal for large signal switch and attenuator applications. These series or shunt devices combine very low insertion loss, good isolation, unprecedented series diode power handling and low distortion in a very small package, and are designed for high-volume commercial, industrial and military radio communications systems such as land mobile radios, tactical radios, avionics and infrastructure markets.

In addition, the low thermal resistance package makes these devices ideal for large signal switch and attenuator applications. These series or shunt devices combine very low insertion loss, good isolation, unprecedented series diode power handling and low distortion in a very small package, and are designed for high-volume commercial, industrial and military radio communications systems such as land mobile radios, tactical radios, avionics and infrastructure markets.

SMP1324-087LF Surface Mount PIN Diode

The SMP1324-087LF is a surface mountable PIN diode suitable for use in an RF switch or attenuator circuit.

Maximum resistance at 50 mA is 0.75 O and maximum capacitance at 30 V is 1.5 pF. The combination of low capacitance, low parasitic inductance, low thermal resistance, and nominal 100 µm I-region width, makes the SMP1324-087LF useful in large signal switches and attenuator applications.

The device has a 2 W dissipation power rating, which makes it capable of handling up to 50 W Continuous Wave (CW) and 500 W peak (1 µs pulse, 1 percent duty cycle) in a shunt-connected transmit/receive (T/R) switch.

  • Low-series resistance: 0.75 O maximum @ 50 mA
  • Low total capacitance: 1.5 pF maximum @ 30 V
  • Excellent thermal resistance: 40 °C/W typical

SMP1371-087LF Surface Mount PIN Diode

The SMP1371-087LF is a surface mountable PIN diode suitable for use in an RF switch or attenuator circuit.

Maximum resistance at 10 mA is 0.5 O and maximum capacitance at 20 V is 1.2 pF. The combination of low capacitance, low parasitic inductance, low thermal resistance, and nominal 12 µm I-region width, makes the SMP1371-087LF useful in fast, large signal switch applications.

The device has a 2 W dissipation power rating, which makes it capable of handling up to 23 W Continuous Wave (CW) and 300 W peak (1 µs pulse, 1 percent duty cycle) in a shunt-connected transmit/receive (T/R) switch.

  • Low-series resistance: 0.5 O maximum @ 10 mA
  • Low total capacitance: 1.2 pF maximum @ 20 V
  • Excellent thermal resistance: 40 °C/W typical
