  • Identifying Sources Of External PIM

Tools are now available from Anritsu to help technicians determine the precise location of external PIM. Using the Anritsu PIM Hunter™ probe in conjunction with a spectrum analyzer, technicians can use traditional interference hunting techniques to locate external PIM sources in the field. This white paper describes the test process as well as provides important guidelines to consider while testing.

Utilizing Dielectric Resonator Antennas For 5G Applications

As 5G technologies are developed to increase wireless communication data rates by a factor of 100, the design specifications of radio frequency (RF) electronics have become much more rigorous, especially for millimeter-wave (mm-wave) applications. As an alternate solution to traditional low radiation and low gain antennas, Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRAs) operate with less conduction losses and feature high radiation efficiency when excited properly for mm-wave frequencies and beyond. This white paper presents additional DRA characteristics, and the advantages of using them for 5G technology development.

Testing High Power Amplifiers For Radar Signals Using Peak Power Meters

As new power amplifier (PA) technologies are released, the latest being GaN technology, an amplifier’s behavior must be thoroughly tested and evaluated to ensure the highest performance under the stress of high power pulsing signals. Since a pulsed RF signal has a time domain nature, the best way to observe the performance of an amplifier is through time domain signal analysis. This article explains how to characterize the behaviors of pulsed RF power amplifiers in radar systems with a peak power meter.

How To Generate And Measure Noise Power Ratio (NPR) Signals

In order to generate noise power ratio stimulus signals and to measure the resulting noise power ratio of a device under test (DUT), Rohde & Schwarz offers the Noise Power Ratio (NPR) as an add-on tool for WinIQSIM / WinIQSIM2™ software. This NPR measurement technique drastically reduces measurement time compared to classic gain wobbling, and is able to characterize the linearity of a wideband amplifier over a custom frequency range. This application note provides an overview of the software, its features, hardware and software requirements, installation, parameters, and more.

How To Select The Correct Power Sensor

The power sensor is one of the most essential RF measurement tools, and as such, it is critical to choose the best power sensor for your application. This can be difficult, however, when many choices are available with bold claims of quicker speeds and more readings per second. Sifting through datasheets can quickly become overwhelming when deciding which sensor meets the needs of any particular measurement. This white paper provides an overview of the fundamentals of RF power sensors, and presents considerations for selecting the best fit.
