PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 22, 2001 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced today that RF Micro Devices, Inc. (RFMD) (Nasdaq: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, has selected Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) software to perform custom simulations on RFMD's power amplifiers. The software is expected to aid RFMD's efforts in bringing a more effective and reliable product to market.

Agilent ADS software is a fast and accurate set of simulators that enables design engineers to improve repeatability and accelerate time to market, increasing semiconductor product yields. RFMD® design engineers use ADS software to aid in the design of power amplifier microwave monolithic integrated circuits (MMICs), as well as modules for 3G, CDMA, GSM, EDGE and TDMA handsets. RFMD is further improving its design accuracy by customizing an ADS design kit that encapsulates foundry process parameters into a set of device models used in ADS circuit simulations.

"Customizing ADS software for our power amplifier applications will allow us to significantly increase the speed of our RF circuit simulation and improve the quality of simulation results," said Bob Bruggeworth, vice president of wireless products, RF Micro Devices. "We believe that Agilent's most recent version of ADS incorporates the most comprehensive set of RF simulation technologies, models and design expertise available, enabling our R&D engineers to accurately model and quickly generate RF designs."
