Mobile Base Station Compliance Management Software Introduced

Stellenbosch, South Africa – Managing ICNIRP compliance for large networks of mobile base stations is complex and resource intensive. It can take a lot of painstaking measurements to identify where non-compliance zones are on a site. Keeping an accurate record of compliance and certification status quickly becomes a large administrative load.

However, new software launched recently aims to make the process far more straighforward. The IXUS software suite makes it easy to model base station sites in 3D, then calculate ICNIRP non-compliance zones and overlay them on the model. It simplifies the management of compliance from the planning phase right through to completed base stations. A central database stores all the information about each base station and automates the process of generating compliance reports and certificates.

IXUS was created by EMSS, a leader in electromagnetic simulation software products. It is available to download for a free 30-day evaluation at www.emssixus.com. The software features a state-of-the art EMF calculator, which has been optimised to run very swiftly on a typical laptop computer. It can generate non-compliance zones for a complex site in a couple of minutes – and often much less.

The software is also very easy to use. You can create accurate 3D models using blueprints or the dimensions measured on site, then snap on ready-made elements like masts, fences, containers and ladders. The modelling software synchronises with a central database and can be used out in the field as well as in the office.

Jarno Van Rooyen, is head of the software development team. "Compliance teams are busy, and we needed to make sure that IXUS was quick and efficient to use," he says. "So we followed a user-centred design process. We worked with target users to make sure we were building what compliance teams really needed. Then we ran usability tests, so that we could be sure the user interface was easy to learn and efficient to use every day."

"Our team takes full responsibility for ICNIRP compliance of over 7000 base stations in South Africa," says Marnus Van Wyk, compliance operations director for EMSS Consulting. "IXUS is vital in keeping us organised, accurate and efficient. Without IXUS we would require many more human resources to assess and maintain the compliance of all these installations."

The IXUS software suite can operate, straight out of the box, as a production system with multiple users and a large database of base stations but we appreciate that many organisations will want to integrate IXUS into a broader computing environment. Each installation is likely to have custom needs, such as integration with proprietary base station databases, or existing network and systems infrastructure. Contact us at www.emssixus.com. The IXUS team will be happy to discuss your integration and customisation needs.
